The Lower Secondary school, also known as the Secondary 1 programme, offers a two-year foundational program that prepares learners for the Upper Secondary programme. Lower secondary learners choose either the national track pathway, which leads to the Junior Secondary School Leaving Examination (JSSLE) or the international path. Learners sit for the Checkpoint Examinations at the end of Grade 9.
The Cambridge Checkpoint Examination assesses progress in English Mathematics, ICT Starters and Science. Learners in Lower Secondary are expected to take six compulsory subjects and two electives.
